Single Mother Success Story

One of our newest programs, debuted in 2018, is the Brown County Youth Rapid Re-Housing Program. In 2018, 13 individuals from 6 households were assisted. Last year in 2019, 64 individuals from 34 households were assisted.

Here is a success story from last year of a Single Mother who is working hard to move to towards her goals of self-sufficiency and buying a home.

“Imagine being a single Mother and sleeping in a car with a preschooler. This was reality for one of the Youth Rapid Re-Housing participants. She was a hard worker and has aspirations of owner her own home, but without a safe place for her and her child to sleep, this dream seemed impossible.

Once she was housed, she found a job that she was well-qualified for and really loved. Five months later, she excitedly told her case managers that she was in line for a promotion! After completing trainings and putting in long hours, she received the promotion! She has been budgeting diligently and has exceeded her own savings goals.

She is anticipating transitioning out of the program after just a year and has her sights set once again on buying her own home.”

About the Brown County Youth Rapid Re-Housing Program

The Brown County Youth Rapid Re-Housing Program is funded through the Wisconsin Balance of State Continuum of Care and the Department of Housing and Urban Development and can provide up to 24 months of rental  assistance. The program will pay 100% of the participant’s first month’s rent. Thereafter, participant contribution toward rent will be 30% of the household’s monthly adjusted gross income, payable directly to the landlord.

This project is subcontracted with Family Services of Northeastern Wisconsin. Family Services will assist in the training and development of the case management and independent living skills for each participant household. Newcap will also perform the housing functions of this program, which will include locating housing, mediating issues/concerns between the landlord and tenant, and assisting the household with sustaining housing.
