The Emergency Food Assistance Program and Food Pantry Program

Counties Served

Program Description
The NEWCAP Food Pantry Program is for emergency food supplies for households in a crisis situation. Food pantries are supplemented with commodities, which are supplied through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). TEFAP also supplements soup kitchens/shelters. Food pantries distribute food through 11 counties. Commodities may also be used by a shelter or soup kitchen to prepare congregate meals.

Eligibility Guidelines
Recipients must be Wisconsin residents and live in the pantry's service area. Clients must have an income at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines established for their household size. Income is determined by self-declaration.

Application Process
Pantry participants are asked to fill out a form and provide proof of residency, the number of dependents, with their names and birthdates, and valid identification. Homeless persons may use the address of a local service agency. People who come to meal sites and shelters do not need to declare income, document residency, or provide identification to receive meals.
